Say Sorry Barry

We won’t stand for intolerance.

This week, a coalition of DC Asian American advocacy groups launched the Say Sorry Barry Campaign urging DC Councilmember Marion Barry to apologize for his insensitive remarks toward the Asian American community, most recently about Filipino nurses, and to uphold his previous commitment to meet with local Asian American leaders. We have sent the statement included below my signature to over 1200 press contacts in DC.

The Say Sorry Barry Campaign is urging Councilmember Barry to stop using divisive rhetoric and to understand that his Asian American constituents deserve the same respect as other District residents. As stated in the sign-on letter, the campaign hopes to support Councilmember Barry’s work in improving our communities, but that work must happen on a foundation of trust and respect.

If you agree that r
acist and xenophobic rhetoric has no place in conversations about policy then please join our campaign through the following means:
  • Contribute $10 to our campaign to help us buy ads (see attached mockup) and other tools we need to put the pressure on Councilmember Barry’s office.
  • Email your supporters. Forward this action letter to your lists.
  • Share petition link on your organization’s Facebook.
  • Tweet this from your organization’s account. “We stand against @marionbarryjr’s divisive anti-Asian and anti-immigrant remarks. #saysorrybarry”Image
